The Symons family have owned this estate since 1965. Sitting in the widest part of the Whistler valley, it wasn’t until 1995 that the envisaged lodge beside Green Lake was built.....

.... Long and low, the building was designed so that every bedroom has a view of the lake and the mountains. And what a view it is! The windows are veritable walls of glass – fall asleep to the twinkling lights of the remote handful of houses across the lake, and wake to broad valley vistas and views of Wedge Mountain, Armchair Glacier and, of course, Whistler and Blackcomb. It’s a mere 15-minute cross-country ski to the resort of Whistler (these mountain types are hardy folk). Hiking, skiing, walking, kayaking, canoeing, biking, snowshoeing, windsurfing, rollerblading and even waterskiing are all available. But if soaking in a lakeside jacuzzi or reading in a swing-seat is more your speed, then Edgewater can also accommodate. Either way, just make sure you are ready for a big supper. The bar and restaurant with vaulted ceilings and head-turning views serves the intriguing "chef’s rambles", and other serious morsels; venison with herb béarnaise, seared Camembert and fig mousse. As Jay says, Edgewater is a great escape from the "just-add-water-and-stir" commercialism of Whistler proper.
