A large sign points you off the highway to cross over to the other side of the Columbia Valley, the largest wetland habitat in North America. Lying between the Rockies and the Purcell Mountains, it’s your personal playground when you stay at Wells Landing.....

.... The new log house stands on the river bank and is guarded by Zeus, a huge, hairy Bernese Mountain Guide Dog and Belgian Shepherd cocktail, who is on the payroll as protector (from predators) and friend of all… ably assisted by his tiny sidekick Sparky. Inside, your awe will be inspired, in no particular order, by the space, the design, the woodworking, the hi-fi system, the enormous windows, the staggering view, the quiet, the wilderness and the welcomes. And once settled in your room (ask for the room with the "loo with a view”) you can then get down to the business of exploring. The original log house that Ron and Jan fell in love with, and lived in for four years while deciding what they wanted to build, still stands on the property, albeit slightly lopsidedly. Greenhouses and flower gardens nurture the surprises that await you at breakfast. Trails have been cut through the forest, for walking or skiing. There are canoes, kayaks, bikes, a hot tub, and even a teepee. I fell asleep star-gazing over the mountains where eagles and osprey nest - and I swear I heard the clattering of a moose on the pebbly spit below my window.
