When Peter and Linda wanted to add ‘B&B owners’ to their résumés, they decided, as many do, to restore an old property. But rather than leave their Manitoba farm and move themselves, they simply found the house of their dreams and moved it.....

.... Snails around the world applauded. A large 97-year-old house 30 km from their farm caught their eye, so they transported it on the back of a gargantuan truck, settled it on some wooded land, spent six months on the restoration – it had been uninhabited for 24 years - and, voilà, a B&B was born. The gabled house, with its two-storey verandah, stands on a small rise on their 640-acre grain and beef-cattle farm, surrounded by trees and fields. It has a simple, country feel; pale walls and beautiful old fir floors are prevalent, with antique wooden furniture and lively quilts playing a supporting role. Modern contrivances such as air-conditioning and a hot tub keep you happily in the 21st century. The Albrechts are locals born and bred and as such are awash with knowledge about the area and its particular attractions. Turtle Mountain Provincial Park and the International Peace Garden are very near and you can hike, bird-watch, skate, or snow-shoe there, depending on the time of year.
