Prince Edward County is often likened to England with its undulating hills and winding lanes. In fact you can even get Cox’s orange pippins here.....

.... The beaches, however, are definitely more Caribbean with clear waters and white sand stretching for miles. A great central place from which to explore the county, with all its museums, artisans, galleries and vineyards, is the Waring House Inn, run by Norah and Christopher Rogers. The original 19th-century farmstead houses the pub, restaurant and my four favourite rooms. All the bedrooms are painted and papered in warm colours and are decorated with antiques suitable to the period of the house. The gothic arched landing window gives great views across the countryside beyond. Other bedrooms and suites are in a separate building on the other side of the small creek that meanders through the property. Most of these have private balconies. Acclaimed cooking classes are run in the hands-on cookery school, concentrating on cuisine from around the world and using local produce, like the Lake Ontario perch and, of course, the aforementioned pippins. Prince Edward County, Ontario's newest wine region, is one of the best bird-watching areas anywhere and is on the Monarch butterfly migration route.
