Get out your Gucci, kick back with a vodka Martini and inject a bit of glamour into your holiday. Modern, stylish and very cosmopolitan, the Hôtel Place D’Armes puts the slick into the city and the hip into the hotel.....

.... Dominating one side of the Place D’Armes in Old Montreal, the building is reminiscent of a European palace with its sculptured, quasi-classical exterior and spectacular lobby. Ornately moulded pillars and vast arched windows soar upwards, dwarfing the swanky bar, its Prada-clad patrons and fold-yourself-in sofas. The cocktail of slick modern design and Victorian splendour really works. Urban chic prevails in the rooms, yet the atmosphere is still warm and inviting. Corner rooms have a penthouse feel with their three windows and panoramic city views. In others you’ll find slinky black hardwood floors or exposed brick walls; the latter an interesting rustic twist in a quintessentially urban landscape. Yet with their luxurious combination of gleaming chequered floors, jacuzzis and extreme spaciousness it was the bathrooms I particularly fell for. Powdering your nose will never be such fun! Everything is provided here – rooftop terrace, evening cocktails and even a downtown shuttle service every morning. All you have to do is order that next Martini. The hotel has its own restaurant, Aix Cuisine du Terroir, and bar, Suite 701.
